Staying Strong

Staying strong as we age means more than muscle—it means balance, mobility, and the ability to keep doing what we love. Healthy eating plays a key role in preserving that strength by fueling our bodies with the nutrients needed to maintain muscle, bone health, and energy. With the right foods, we can stay active, independent, and resilient.

That’s why Key Health Care’s “Nutrition As We Age” Workshop, powered by SilverSneakers® and curated by Harvard Health, is here to help. This 8-week series offers simple, research-based guidance to support better eating, better living, and a stronger you.

Participation in Key Health Care’s Nutrition As We Age Workshop  will help you to stay sharp as you age . . . this  is just as important as staying strong.

Key Points:

  • Staying mentally sharp is vital to aging well, alongside physical strength.

  • Mental clarity, memory, and focus support confidence, connection, and daily function.

  • Diet plays a direct role in brain health—certain nutrients can protect cognitive function.

    • Reduce memory loss risk

    • Improve mood

Maintaining Independence Through Nutrition

  • Maintaining independence as we age means more than just living on our own—it means having the strength, balance, and energy to manage everyday tasks without assistance. Nutrition plays a powerful role in this. A well-balanced diet rich in protein, calcium, vitamin D, and anti-inflammatory nutrients helps preserve muscle strength, bone density, and joint health.

  • When we nourish our bodies properly, we’re more likely to:

    • Stay mobile without relying on a cane or wheelchair

    • Reduce the risk of falls and fractures

    • Avoid needing assistance with essential tasks like getting out of bed, using the bathroom, or preparing meals

    • Continue enjoying the freedom to participate in the activities we love

  • Key Health Care’s Nutrition As We Age Workshop explores the foods that support physical function and independence—so you can live life on your terms, longer.
